Sir Andrew Steer

Sir Andrew Steer is a globally recognized economist and leader in sustainable development and climate finance, with more than three decades of experience across government, multilateral institutions, philanthropy, and the private sector. He currently serves as a Distinguished Research Professor of the Practice in Environment and Economics at Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service and The Earth Commons, and as a Professor in Practice at the London School of Economics’ Global School of Sustainability. Most recently, he was the founding President and CEO of the Bezos Earth Fund, where he built and led the organization to accelerate large-scale climate action.

Previously, Sir Andrew served as President and CEO of the World Resources Institute, as the World Bank’s Special Envoy for Climate Change, and as Director General of the UK Department for International Development, following a decade leading World Bank operations in Vietnam and Indonesia. He serves on several global advisory and governance bodies, including the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet and the World Economic Forum, where he co-chairs the Global Futures Council on Innovative Finance for Climate and Nature. Knighted in 2024 and named to Forbes’ inaugural Top 50 Global Sustainability Leaders, Sir Andrew brings deep expertise in mobilizing capital and scaling solutions critical to the global energy transition.
